Shana Tova and a Happy New Year to all celebrating Rosh Hashanah


Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year, begin this week, with Rosh Hashanah, aka the Jewish New Year.


For many Jewish families, it is a holiday of reflection and renewal, as well as a time to share a holiday meal with family and friends.

The Jewish year follows the lunar calendar, and the the number counts the number of years since Creation . This year we will mark the beginning of 5774.

The traditional Rosh Hashanah greeting means wishing you "a good and sweet year".

On the second night of Rosh Hashana it is traditional to eat a fruit from the new season. The most popular fruit is the pomegranate, both for the beauty of its shape, but also because it is one of the seven species of produce native to the Land of Israel.

This week there was even a Shanah Tova greeting from the White House with President Obama’s Rosh Hashanah fantastic and positive greeting.
